Medicine: A New Approach

Updated: Jul 13, 2023

A Glimpse into its origins

We would like to share with you our philosophy of healing, which is simply:

The Physician should always seek to heal, in every circumstance.

Any tendency to state that "There is no cure for this disease" etc. is completely opposite to the core of the medical field. But how did this philosophy form?

Life is a journey. The moment we are born we start absorbing things. Initially we take instructions from parents, teachers and society. Without much thinking, we follow the patterns. That is how we go to schools, colleges, universities and jobs. But on the way we do things that we don’t completely agree with. But we still follow the path. Until we finish school and graduate, we rarely have time for thinking. Sometimes we get questions, but no adequate answers.

For example, when I was in middle school, the physics teacher started teaching us theorems which used phrases like “this is almost equal to”. At the time, the young mind did not accept “almost equal to”. My next question was: If I write that 2 + 2 = 3.9999, will you give me full marks? Of course, there was no proper answer to that. In spite of this, I moved on.

Why am I writing this? Because I want to convey the importance of such latent questions for life. You should always keep two compartments inside you. One is for the regular routine work for survival. But the other – the most important one – is for thinking about problems that have not been answered. Just as a mother who is doing all the housework continuously still keeps watch on the child without interruption, you should always keep a watch on that second compartment. This is the focus and the attitude that will give an opportunity to solve the unsolved problems.

In my case, my childhood dream was to become a doctor. I finished my preliminary education in the usual way until I got into medical college.

And then, what happened? Reality started showing its presence in its own way, as I began dealing with the courses:

Anatomy: Dissecting dead bodies.

Physiology: Creating graphs with data obtained by stimulating brain-dead frogs.

Pharmacology: Being taught that chemicals can restore our health, when all they were doing was stimulation or suppression.

Pathology: Studying dead cross sections of diseased organs under the microscope.

Medicine: Studying of all diseases.

Surgery: Removal and repair of unhealthy organs.

In all this, we only focused on the question: WHAT HAPPENED? The damage has already occurred, and hence the outcome we could offer was necessarily limited.

If, instead, we had focused on a different question: WHAT IS HAPPENING? We may get the answer to what is causing the damage, which would lead towards arresting the current damage and preventing future ones. This would belong to the second compartment in my own life, leading to further studies in nutritional medicine as described on this website.
